The European Union-Brunei Darussalam Partnership Facility is currently conducting a seminar to further advance the cause of gender equality and celebrate the achievements of women.
The two-day event titled the Policy Outreach and Exchange Seminar on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment will take place at the Radisson Hotel starting today.
The seminar will be officiated by the Ambassador of the European Union to Indonesia and Ambassador-Designate to Brunei Darussalam, Vincent Piket, who is paying a working visit to the Sultanate from 1 to 3 March.
“Promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment is a shared task. I hope this seminar will produce some hands-on ideas for cooperation between Brunei and the EU in this area,” said Ambassador-Designate Piket.
Joining him at the seminar is HE Mr Bernard Regnauld-Fabre, Ambassador of France to Brunei Darussalam, and HE Ms Gerda Winkler, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Brunei Darussalam.
His Excellency and Brunei’s Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) will also be delivering keynote addresses.
Members of the panel will include senior local and EU officials exchanging knowledge and ideas, promoting the advancement of women while learning from diverse perspectives.
Discussions will focus and range on gender equality, gender mainstreaming and encouraging greater participation of women in all aspects of society.
Participants can also attend a keynote lecture on The European Union as a Global Actor in the Indo-Pacific, slated to take place at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) on March 2.
During his visit, Ambassador Piket will be meeting with government officials, business leaders, academics, and civil society organisations.
Additionally, he will also attend events organised through a new EU project to promote bilateral partnership and cooperation: the European Union-Brunei Darussalam Partnership Facility.
The European Union-Brunei Darussalam Partnership Facility aims to promote two-way exchanges and know-how transfer between Bruneian and EU stakeholders from the government, private sector, and civil society.
Areas covered include policy areas of shared interest such as economic cooperation, higher education, research, environment, climate and sustainable growth.
Those interested in advancing the cause of gender equality and celebrating the achievements of women are welcome to the event. Participation is free, however, slots are limited.
