The 39th National Day celebration at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital will feature some of the performances that have never been seen in the previous iterations.
This was shared by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) in a press conference at its headquarters led by Permanent Secretary (Culture) Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan as Co-Secretary of the Executive Committee of the 39th National Day celebration.
Acting Director of Culture and Arts Haji Mohd Abdoh Haji Awang Damit said that the performances in store for the national celebration will feature modern musical scores translated into traditional orchestra, with instruments to also include the “gambus” which is a six-stringed Arabic musical instrument resembling the lute.
A total of 2,839 participants and 120 traditional musicians are set to play the specially crafted patriotic songs at the celebration.
Additionally, the performance titled “Warisan Budaya: Jati Diri Bangsa” will also be featuring other traditional elements including the Pencak Silat – all of which remains relevant in showcasing the nation’s identity and heritage.

Several events have also been arranged including the Doa Kesyukuran, mass Maghrib and Isya prayers and recital of Surah Yasin, which will be held at a select of focal mosques in all of the four districts.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam had consented to grace this event, which will be held on February 22 at 5.45pm.
Focal points for Brunei-Muara will be at Masjid Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien; Tutong at Masjid Hassanal Bolkiah; Kuala Belait at Masjid Mohammad Jamalul Alam and; Temburong at Masjid Utama Mohammad Salleh.
Standard operating procedures for the ceremony include entry only for green or yellow BruHealth codes and ablution at home before going to the mosques. Wearing facemasks and bringing won prayer mats are optional.
Those who wish to attend the event are also required to perform an antigen rapid test and be fully vaccinated.
Brunei citizens and residents were also called enliven the celebration together by hoisting the national flag at their residences, offices and businesses as well as putting up decorative lights until February 25.
