A delegation from the Federation of Brunei Malay Entrepreneurs (PPPMB) visited Labuan from November 1st to 2nd. The 11 PPPMB members were visiting Labuan for the first time, and the visit was hosted by the Labuan branch of the BIMP-EAGA Business Council.
Labuan Corporation and LDA Labuan (Holdings) Sdn. Bhd. also provided support for this visit. The main purpose of the visit was to explore the business and investment sectors in Labuan and to develop potential cooperation opportunities with local entrepreneurs. In conjunction with the delegation’s arrival, several activities were also organized, such as visits to two local companies.
The first stop was New Chip Guan Bakery, owned by Hong Xiang’en and his mother, Li Yuemei. There, they learned about the bread-making process; these breads will be exported to Brunei.
The second stop was Chin Wui Trading, owned by Liau Jun Wui. The company’s main business is producing crispy frying flour. There, the delegation learned about the various uses of the crispy frying flour and the owner also using them at a demo for the visitors to taste. Their products have already entered the Brunei market. Most members of the delegation purchased products from the two entrepreneurs.
Tuan Haji Suni Sulaiman, Deputy Chairman (Trade) of PPPMB and head of the delegation, expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality and event arrangements provided by the organizers, and hoped that the PPPMB members attending would take this opportunity to explore the potential for business collaboration with Labuan entrepreneurs.
Several PPPMB members also took the opportunity to briefly introduce their respective businesses. Dato’ Husni welcomed the visiting delegation and hoped they would benefit from the visit and explore investment potential in Labuan. Subsequently, Dato’ Husni witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between BIMP-EAGA Business Council (BEBC), Labuan and PPPMB. This memorandum is expected to inject new vitality into cooperation between the two parties in various fields.
The second day’s itinerary included visits to several locations for the delegation, including Labuan UTC, the Labuan Museum, the Rancha Rancha soda factory and Desaland. At Desaland, the delegation was warmly received by Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Alias, his wife Datin Hajah Norsiah and their team. The delegation also rode a miniature train, sampled local cuisine, and visited the resort’s guesthouses and other facilities. The PPPMB delegation was very satisfied with the visit; they not only witnessed firsthand the success of local ecotourism but also experienced products that interest them.
They welcomed Labuan entrepreneurs’ return visit to Brunei Darussalam. Azhar, as chairman of the organizing committee, thanked the delegation for their visit and hoped it would pave the way for closer cooperation in the future. He also expressed his gratitude to Labuan Corporation and LDA Labuan (Holdings) Sdn Bhd for their collaboration.
