Last Saturday, April 20, 2024, WPU-ATBI in collaboration with its partners Palawan Economic Development Council – BIMP-EAGA Business Council (PEDCO-BEBC) Palawan and BEBC MSME Cluster Palawan successfully conducted the MSME Stakeholders Meeting at the Bacosa Theater, Western Philippines University – Puerto Princesa City Campus. This initiative is a crucial initial step towards the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the province of Palawan in preparation for the commencement of trading activities between Palawan and nearby areas in the BIMP-EAGA area particularly Kudat, Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan in Malaysia as well as Brunei Darussalam. This was attended by over sixty stakeholders from various business groups in the province.
Mr. Alex A. Paglumotan, PEDCO-BEBC Palawan President and Alternate Country Director gave his Welcome Remarks and acknowledged the participants and Engr. Cipriano DC Barroma, PEDCO-BEBC Palawan Chairman Emeritus and Country Director gave the rationale of the activity. Mr. Leo N. Plasus, WPU-ATBI Manager then oriented the stakeholders on BEBC MSME Cluster Palawan, its vision, mission, goals and objectives as well as its services and plan of action for the development of local MSMEs. WPU-ATBI Project Leader Dr. Maria Mojena Gonzales-Plasus also presented WPU-ATBI and the services it offers to MSMEs. Another important topic discussed was Air and Sea Connectivity in which Mr. Alex paglumotan and Engr. Cipriano Barroma gave updates on the recent developments in this front. Representatives from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources as well as the Development Bank of the Philippines also talked about their programs in support of this initiative. An Open Forum gave opportunities to the stakeholders to clarify matters and make positive contributions on how to implement this initiative moving forward.
Overall this MSME Stakeholders Meeting was a huge success with the participants expressing enthusiasm and positivity regarding this initiative.
