The meeting with H.E Dr. Sujatmiko, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Brunei Darussalam was held on 24th February, 2021. His Excellency cited a range of opportunities to increase trade between Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia, which, like the Philippines, are also resource-rich. Connectivity has been the biggest hurdle: sea, air and land.
In order to increase trade between the two countries, His Excellency has discussed with several ministers how to reduce this barrier. Currently, due to the logistical expense, Bruneians have to pay a commodity three times compared to the consumers in Jakarta. His Excellency has put up several recommendations to the government viz acceptance of Indonesian frozen meat without necessarily requiring the Brunei inspectors to be physically present, as required by the current procedures, Indonesia Trading House to be set up in Brunei Darussalam, opportunities for Brunei investors to purchase land and assets now in the future Kalimantan Capital City.
His Excellency has also pledged to assist BDBEBC in linking up and developing networking with Indonesian counterparts.
